Jumbo Coturnix Quail Chicks

We have Jumbo Coturnix quail for sale and they will be a great option if you don’t have much room. These Coturnix quail chicks are easy to care for, grow quickly, and are fun to raise. They are a great option for providing both meat and eggs for your family. You can get a variety of feather colors as well, ready to lay eggs in 7 weeks!

Straight Run – Not sexed. Mature Bird Weight: 12-16 oz

Caring for Your Quail Chicks

0 – 3 Weeks

Temperature – Your quail chicks will need a brooder or heat lamp. The heat directly beneath the brooder/lamp should be 100°F, while the surrounding area should be 95°F. Maintain this temperature for their first 7 days while dropping 1 degree Fahrenheit each day thereafter, as long as the chicks appear healthy.

Nutritional Needs – Young quail chicks need a 28% Game bird or Turkey Starter with Amprolium. This feed must be in small enough crumbles for the quail chicks to consume easily. A food processor may be used to grind the feed into smaller crumbles. Do NOT feed this breed chicken feed!

3 – 6 Weeks

Temperature—Once your quail chicks have mostly feathered out, their brooder/heat lamp may be removed. At first, your quail must still be kept at around 70 – 75°F. Reduce the temperature by 1-2 degrees daily until it matches the temperature where the birds will be permanently kept.

Nutritional Needs – At this stage in their development, quail need access to a 22% game bird grower feed. Again, ensure the crumble or pellets are small enough for your birds to consume properly. Do NOT feed your quail chicken feed!

6+ Weeks

Light for Egg Production – At 6-8 weeks of age, your female Coturnix quails will begin laying eggs. They should have access to ample light, whether natural or artificial, to promote egg laying in your flock.

Meat Production – Male Coturnix quails are excellent for meat production. They can be processed at 8 weeks of age.

Nutritional Needs – Maintain quail health with a 19-21% Breeder or Grower Maintenance Feed diet. Regular crumbles or mini-pellets are acceptable as long as the feed is small enough for your quail to consume. Do NOT feed your quail chicken feed!

Space Required – If raising an all-female flock, ensure each bird has at least 46 square inches of space. If raising a breeding flock for quail eggs, birds require 64 square inches per bird.
